Sorry for that 3-4 day affair with the “Maintenance Mode” screen. Don’t worry, I’ve been hard at work (understatement) fine-tuning this place, weaving a much-needed new layout, and making sure everything ran smoothly. Let me just say, this layout was a wild bucking bull. So many errors to even out, and even now, I still have more work to do. This stuff isn’t easy.

I decided to forget blogging about my vacation. I doubt anyone is interested in it, anyway.

So! I have some new addictions!

The WHATTHEBUCK Show! Insanely hilarious. This is how a little un-American cultured girl gets her information. Michael Buckley is a genius. And a roll-on-the-floor laughing one at that.

FARK! Since I’ve stopped watching the local news, this makes a handy replacement.

M.I.A.! I had searched the ends of the world to find an amazing Desi singer. She’s the one. Her songs are hypnotic. Check my tumblr post to see my favorite songs.

ONESENTENCE! It’s kind of like PostSecret, except minus the photos part. I really like reading them!

TUTORIALTASTIC! This site has been a HUGE help in creating this layout. If I didn’t have this wonderful site, I don’t know what I would do. Thank you, Jem!

That’s all for right now. I’m still adding more information and editing!

Update: For those who asked, no, I did not convert to EE. It was a huge hassle converting my posts, comments, and themes… and quite frankly, I’m sticking to Wordpress!

Hello everyone! I am currently typing on a Hampton guest computer, on the third floor. If you didn’t already know (or you’ve not being following me on Twitter, which I’ve used to document all the whimsical thoughts during the trip) I am on a family road trip to West Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.

So far, we’ve only been to New Mexico, but it’s still incredibly exciting! We saw the Carlsbad Caverns, and don’t worry, I’ll post all the pictures.

Speaking of pictures! I bought this super cute camera, a Samsung L200, and it’s shiny black and very tiny. It’s been a powerhouse because on the first and second day it had to take several pictures in the dark with barely any light. So far, so good.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Oh goodness! Isn’t it hot?!

Still working around some kinks, but I think for the most part it looks decent. Record amount of time: a full, straight day. No breaks at all. Not very healthy…

So recently, I’ve been watching much more Direct TV (we’ve had it for a while, but I rarely watch television) and I came across this show, Jon and Kate Plus 8. My mother loves shows with babies, so I always happen to come across these shows. After a while, you start getting to know each little child respectively, mostly for their personalities and looks. My mother does NOT like Maddie, for obvious reasons. She’s a little brat, and when she gets older she’ll realize how stupid she acted on television. I could name several instances of her being spoiled. Boo!

So, recently, I got back on Twitter. I also joined Plurk, Jaiku (currently waiting on invitation), Pownce, and Tumblr. That’s quite a bit, but I love to try out these things. Consider it taste testing. Feel free to follow me at http://twitter.com/susiee.

In regards to cuisine, I recently bought some Top Ramen, masala flavored, and absolutely adored it! I’ve eaten regular ramen for a while, but this is a new high. Being Indian and all, there is no such thing as ‘too spicy.’

Well, that’s all for today. I hope all of you are enjoying your summer!

Now, I am not one to give very blatant opinions, but I saw this article by Alex and I suddenly had a passion to blog about it. In the town I live in, there is only one mall and this mall has a nice variety of teenage clothing stores. Since everyone is hating on Hollister, I’ll talk about it.

I’ll be honest, I’m intimated by these stores. I see all the other girls wearing Hollister, American Eagle, etc. so I’m compelled to buy it too (yeah, yeah, teen peer pressure). The atmosphere is usually loud upbeat music and clothes, clothes, clothes. You don’t even know where to begin. I’m always confused.

Now, I have a regular body type. I’m not too fat and I’m not too skinny. I’m average. But when I go into Hollister, I have to look for shirts that are large or extra large. The medium sizes are for teeny tiny girls with absolutely nothing on them. Nothing can fit around the chest area or the waist. It’s meant for tiny girls.

If I am an average girl’s size, the normal, healthy size for any teenager girl, why do I have to make myself wear large or extra large? And to make matters worse, it is hard to find a large or extra large in these stores. I’m at a loss and I feel horrible when I have to try them on. Something inside my head tells me, “Are you really an extra large?”

This isn’t a problem in other stores. I go into Target or something and voila, I’m a small to a medium. Why did I have to go through that then? Shouldn’t stores tailor to the average, healthy sized girls?

I thought the anorexic skinny chick trend was over. When will the healthy normal chick trend begin?!

So, since school is out and summer is in, I’ve been trying to fill up my vacation days with things to do. I mean, my past summers haven’t been exactly entertaining as I hoped. I used to be so addicted to MapleStory that I would stay up many nights to play. I’m over that now.

My days consisted of sitting in front of the computer and watching reruns on TV. So, instead, this year I plan on lots of swimming, visiting old friends, vacationing to other places, and being more involved in my church. That’s a goal of mine.

Oh! My brother recieved, or rather, was gifted, a new computer set! I’m not talking about a single CPU, I mean a brand, spankin’ new, sleek, gorgeous Gateway bundle! The monitor, speakers, keyboard, mouse, CPU, and not to mention my beautiful new Canon Pixma MP210…I think I died and went to heaven. Except that raised problems on Windows Vista. Now, I am a lover of Windows XP, I know it through and through and I’ve worked with it for a long time. But when we connect the new Vista with the main computer’s old Lexmark printer, Vista wouldn’t recognize it. Suddenly, the new beautiful Gateway didn’t seem so beautiful…

So, this summer will consist of:

My church’s summer camp (already went, and it was a blast!)

Teaching/Helping out at VBS (Vacation Bible School)

Getting tutored for Algebra II and SAT to get ahead (everyone’s doing it nowadays…)

Family Vacation to New Mexico, Arizona, and the Grand Canyon!

Visiting all my friends and hanging out (swimming included)

Experiencing new places and doing more activities (vague, but I just threw that in there)

Watching more movies and reading higher level books (LEAP will be brutal in 10th, or so I’ve heard)

So, I wish you luck and fun times for this wonderful summer of ‘08! I will make a sincere effort to blog more (no promises though!). Enjoy!

Well, it finally came. I’ve been looking forward to it seriously dreading it for the past few months. Always, always, always there are those prized few kids who are a few ages ahead of me and take the show away. They are very lucky because:

They go to the church’s school (the recital is held at my church) and therefore have access to play on it as much as possible.

I have a keyboard, not a piano. And those who know the difference, playing on a keyboard is much different from playing on a piano.

I have only been playing for three years. Less than that.

However, my piano teacher has faith in me and in the line-up (the closer you are to the end of the recital, the better you are) and she had made me go 8th out of 11th. I finally sat in first row with the prodigies!

I am quitting piano lessons after this recital. I believe with the vast knowledge I’ve already learned, I can start teaching myself!

Basically, the little kids who are like 6-8 get up all nervous and shaking and sit by the piano and bang out tiny tunes. Then progressively, the next kids are moderately good, playing good songs but often do not have their music memorized. The best students play last, and they usually have their music memorized and play with almost perfection. I had all my three songs memorized! (I can’t say it was perfect…I messed up once, only one note, during my difficult song and improvised. At least no one really noticed!)

Any of you play instruments? How do you performances usually go?

Three and a half more days of school. Of ninth grade.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and then half of Thursday.

And yet, these days just won’t slip by. You won’t believe how much cramming my teachers have been doing. Come on, a RAT DISSECTION just two days before school gets out?! (I was looking forward to that…)

GOOD NEWS! I got baptized this Sunday. It was very exciting and during the whole service I was so scared and my heart went 400 BPM (that would kill me…) because I haven’t gone up in front of the church…ever. I would show you the pictures, but the old fat camera that we STILL have (no one will buy a new one) took extremely blurry pictures and my baptism looked like it happened in a sauna. So, yes, I am on the lookout for a new camera.

$100-$200 is my budget, 10 MP and up, and very thin. I hate bulky cameras. And I do like sleek colors, like black or silver.

If you have any suggestions, let me know!

It is a Friday night
filled with fun and their frisky friends
but she is sitting beside
her mother just replanted a new jasmine plant, the old one’s dead roots
the new jasmines are sweet smelling, but they’re ugly to her

It is a Friday night
vibrations of loud music and their throbbing parties
but she is cooking dinner
scraps of chapatti and small plastic bowls of biryani
cooked in crackling broken pot, to the tune of her mother’s complaints

It is a Friday night
it is dark and raining hot drops of their romantic lovers, wet in the streets
but she is without her own
it’s against her beliefs, passed down from her mother
and her mother’s mother, plopped into her confused head

It is a Friday night
everyone is going home, laughing and full of life
but she is alone, sitting in her cold room of ice
making own rain and sobbing her own sounds
they plucked herself out, and planted themselves

It is a Saturday night
they put a sari and put her hair in a braid
“Such a good girl!” they say
they nod and smile, they think it’s her
they plucked herself out, and planted themselves

This is for my LEAP English Poetry Reciting! I’m excited. I have to perform this in front of my class!
